3 Places In New Westminster, BC That Will Make You Feel Like A Local

Taking advantage of some sunny days, this weekend we set out to live like locals and #supportsmallbusinesses in New Westminster, British Columbia. As a small business ourselves we've become more aware of our peers and the strain the pandemic has put on us indie creatives. It's part of the reason we strive to source our materials from Canadian companies + build a neighbourly bond. Here at TLA we believe in fostering a creative, supportive and inclusive community.

...And the cornerstone for all great communities to mingle? A local coffee shop!

Right along the Fraser River is a bustling area inspired by art and it's community. It's there that you'll find one of our favourite shops, not just in New Westminster, but in Vancouver as a whole: The Old Crow.

They serve dynamite 'flat whites' while also engaging you with local art news prints, current issues and curated gifts. Warning!: They're a hot commodity of the area so the best time of day to go is bright and early before everyone else is out + perusing.

It's around this area that we stumbled across a gorgeous recreational park built using natural + recycled materials. A great spot to take your dog or kid and still be perfectly distanced from other people as you walk along the Fraser.

If you follow us on Instagram (@thelevendart) you may have caught a few glimpses of things we've purchased from Good Omen Shop in the past. This is a great place to find gifts and homehold items. They sell everything from plants + crystals to jewelry + apothecary.

We have memorialized our 2020 Moon Phase Calendar and what a year to remember.

The local mom and pop convenience store My Uptown Party! is a surprisingly well stocked Narnia for all your immediate needs. It's highly affordable and a hidden gem of the neighbourhood. You never know what you'll find once you start looking! We snagged ourselves some bright flowers and this fun vase! (Also featured in last week's post all about small ways we upgraded our home office nook).

New Westminster is one of those areas in the lower mainland that reveals it's best qualities the more time you spend there. It's community is creative and supportive with a lot to offer...and they're following Covid-19 prevention protocols which allows you to feel more comfortable shopping local this summer.

What's a small business that you're loving, we want to know in the comments!

Stay Creative,

The Levend Art
