Live in Colour

A lot of home styling trends we’ve been seeing over the past few years promote the neutral, minimalist approach. Clear space, clear mind and all that. Such an approach was great for the first few months of the pandemic because it gave us the calm needed to endure a flurry of self-isolation thoughts. Now, a year and a half later we’re...bored.

Beige walls be gone! We want to live in colour - which is exactly what we’re talking about in this week’s blog post.

The recent turn of weather has a lot of us in higher spirits since lockdown. Something about the hot sun and sea breeze, birds chirping and longer days makes you feel inspired for change. You may have already seen that our most recent product releases have been a lot more vibrant. From our OG “Thank You” card to the latest “Cup of Magic” print, we’re telling you to give it a try and add a bold pop of happiness to your space! And we cannot think of a better time to celebrate your individuality and vibrancy than the present moment!

STATEMENT FURNITURE + LARGE DECOR

We know that bright, stand-out colours can be intimidating, especially in statement pieces of furniture but we feel that sometimes it’s the best way to invoke personality to a space. Starting with a matching set of “plain” furniture, cheap or not, is a great general starting point for most of us and it also provides a great canvas for showcasing unique taste without being too overwhelming in the space.

We’re real suckers for royal hues and earth tones which is why we love this velvety blue armchair. Iit’s always the first thing people notice (and LOVE!) when they come to our place. Since we have beige walls, floors and chocolatey brown furniture, this colour is really soothing and exciting at the same time. Plus, it’s a classic colour and design that we can enjoy for years to come! Love a good place to cuddle up with a book (or scroll instagram) and sip on a hot bevvy.

Or if you’re looking for something quite versatile for any space - and trust us this one’s been in about every corner we have in our apartment - that will truly stand the test of time, a solid accent piece like this extra large teal glass bubble vase is a cool option.

This guy is so fun and since the colour is a bit more muted with the glass texture, it blends wonderfully with any space. Dried plants/grasses give off such a cozy feel!

WALL PRINTS

Obviously, we couldn’t mention colour without talking about wall prints. Similar in fashion to how we style other colourful elements in our space, we like accentuating one or two bold elements by surrounding them with neutrals. So having a fun print like tese looks awesome on a gallery wall. Or try something as a simple stand-alone that adds a little zhuzh to an otherwise blank area.

BOOKS

Calling all bookworms. We know your #shelfies are something to be admired and with all those lovely spines, why wouldn’t we want to use them to add even more colour to our space?!

We’ve used our petite home library collection to compliment the other tones of the apartment but why not go full rainbow? This popular trend is a no-brainer and is a great way to restore the love of some all time faves from hiding in boxes or under furniture since forgotten.

We also like to think that having exciting books on display encourages friends and family to pick one up & have a conversation about, whenever that’s acceptable again.

FRESH + DRIED PLANTS

When we think colour, we think a breath of excitement and what’s more lively than some greenery? Plants can come in so many different forms, from your basic greens to every colour combo and pattern imaginable. They can be potted, dried, real, fake...there’s something for everyone and they just brighten rooms in a way that other tones simply cannot.

CARDS

On this final note, we wanted to share colour with other people. We actually often keep every card we receive and display them in the home. They remind us of the kind words and/or gorgeous illustrations that just seem to need a bit more time for admiration. Most importantly, these temporary colours make us feel really g o o d.

Express yourself and be proud of the things and/or people in your life that are different. Life is better with the magic of colour and we hope you’re appreciating it, too.

Stay Creative,

TLA
